Family and Wii-ness

Wow, I had such a wonderful time with my In-Laws yesterday. When Sean and I arrived, there we saw “J” our nephew playing on his Nintendo Wii he got for Christmas (lucky sod!) with his dad. Of course, I had to have a go! We had a couple of fun-filled hours playing various games on Wii Sports. I really got into the tennis and bowling, but couldn’t fathom the boxing. I looked like a right idiot punching, more like a drunk. I had a go on the cow racing game on Wii Play, too. I didn’t do well because it was difficult to control and I kept giggling at the sight of this virtual cow galloping as if it was a drunken horse. The Nintendo Wii is so much fun, it’s brilliant to play with family, and would go down a treat at parties. I wanted a Wii before I played on one, but now after taking one for a test drive I want one even more. However, there doesn’t seem to be a single console left in this town and I don’t have the funds anyway. One day, one day.

I got to spend more time with my nephew and get to know him. I have only ever spoken to him a couple of occasions, and he couldn’t come to our wedding because he was away on holiday with his family at that time. He is such a wonderful kid, very polite and cheeky. I can see why Sean was always raving on about him. I got to see my toddler neice, too. She is so sweet. Again, she is a good kid, not one tantrum or case of bad behaviour with her. She has grown a bit since the wedding, she’s developing into such a beautiful little girl. She was the star of the show for sure. I have yet to meet “R”, my Brother-in-Law’s partner’s son. He blew off our wedding to go chasing girls (typical), and doesn’t seem to come over here often. I would like to meet him, too.

I had a delicious dinner of chicken breast, stuffing, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, boiled potatoes with chicken gravy. The pudding was profiteroles, yummy! Mum-in-Law’s dinners are great. I really feel my confidence is boosting. I can get quite shy and nervous meeting new people, especially In-Laws. I always think they’re judging me, watching me. However, that’s not the case, I know now. I felt so comfortable there yesterday, it’s the first time I felt like I was a member of the family. It was a wonderful day, a major breakthrough. I now feel comfortable enough to see my Mother and Father-in-Law more often. I have been accepted into the family, that happened when I married their son, but I didn’t really feel accepted until yesterday. It’s not anything they said in particular, it’s just a feeling. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I hope there will be more fun-filled days like yesterday.

Oh I love the wii! I hardly play mine because I only have the sports game and Zelda, but it’s great fun! And actually a surprisingly good workout :P Your arm is in agony after baseball.

And I look like an idiot playing boxing, but it’s all part of the fun :D
