Valentine’s Day boycott

Being unemployed gets boring, hence this new design. There’s only so many jobs a person can apply for, especially at this time of year when there’s no work going. I decided to go for pinks and reds since I don’t use them enough. I suppose they tie in with Valentine’s Day which is coming soon, but to heck with that. I boycotted Valentine’s Day ages ago, it’s just another day when the card, chocolate and flower companies make a mint. It’s a day when couples can gloat and when single people feel like non-entities. Why wait just one day in the year to say how much you love someone? Tell them each and every day. Stuff the over-priced chocolates, flowers and cheesy, generic cards up Cupid’s arse and boycott Valentine’s Day.

Before anybody calls me a bitter and twisted hag for denouncing such a “joyous holiday”, I’d like to say I’m not bitter. Twisted maybe, but not bitter. Yes I’ve had some crappy Valentine’s Days in the past, but that’s because I made such a big deal out of them. When you get hyped up and hope your partner remembers and buys you something very lavish, you’re setting yourself up for a fall. Now, not all partners are forgetful, incompassionate twits like my exes, but I find if you just treat the day as a regular one you won’t get down. Once I got with Sean, I truly didn’t give a damn about Valentine’s Day. I was confident I found my life partner and knew I didn’t need one day in the year to validate our love for one another. We adore each other no matter what day it is, and I guarantee we say “I love you” daily. I don’t need chocolates, cards or flowers. I just need his love, companionship and support. I’m not trying to be self-righteous here, I just hope people read this and realise they shouldn’t get depressed if they don’t have a “Valentine”. Once you have found the right person, these things do not count anyway, just love. If you are single, be happy being single. One day you will find the right person. Enjoy life and don’t let a stupid day get to you. Life’s too short for that.

Heh I agree :cute: I don’t think everyone should have to make such a big deal over it. I’ve had one good Valentine’s Day in my life =/ I think this year I will do something for it but I still think it’s silly. It is just all about money.

I love the theme, but I feel like the content needs a little more padding, and I’d toy with aligning the links in the sidebar to the right.

If you have forefox & firebug you can adjust code in the browser to preview before actually editing and uploading your stylesheet.

I love the colour scheme though and the header too :D

Hi Carly, welcome to the site.

Thank you for your suggestions, I do feel the content needs a little more padding, which I will give a go. This layout is still in progress, I tend to put up layouts then tinker with them. :D

[...] have stuck by what I said, I am boycotting Valentine’s Day. It’s just a regular day for me, which is good. [...]
