Pushing myself
April 30, 2008 – 10:32 am
Web design is a huge interest of mine, I love it. I have loved it for almost a decade. Wow, I have been designing websites so so long, it doesn’t feel like it. It started from a mere drag-and-drop fan page, then I was hooked. I started learning HTML, then I went on to discover other wonderful things about web development. I feel it is about time I started getting into the industry professionally. I have had many mundane, little jobs that I haven’t enjoyed and feel web development is my calling. I feel this is what I want to do with my life. I have had this feeling a few months now, being a web developer would be my dream job.
I am really pushing myself to improve and build up my portfolio. I purchased a new domain name for it and I am working on a brand new design. After that, I am going to contact local charities (thanks, Rachael!) to ask if they would like their website redesigned free of charge so I can build my portfolio up. If anybody else reading this is interested in me designing a layout for them free of charge, then please contact me. I won’t be giving away layouts for free forever.
The only thing that I would ask in return is that you could write me a testimonial when the work is complete.
I have been scouring the Internet for web development vacancies and applying for whatever jobs I can. I am determined to do this, I do not want to be in a job I won’t enjoy. When I have finished writing this post, I will be working on the portfolio design, then I will be improving my CV. Then after that I will need to do the cleaning. It will be a busy day for me today. Today is all about bettering my prospects and gaining more confidence. I know I can do this, this is probably the only thing I am sure about right now.

April 30th, 2008 at 2:55 pmGood luck on the job hunt. I know how difficult looking for a job can be and how stressful it can be. Have you had any moments of “I’m never going to find a job!!”? I’ve sure had those!
I’d feel silly asking you to make me a layout because I don’t really know what I’d need a layout for. I’m sure some people will take you up on that offer though. I would, if I had a legitimate reason, so as to help you build your portfolio and give you a good testimonial.
Speaking of portfolios, I need to really create myself one for my teaching career. Another thing that’s on my To-Do list that probably won’t be done for some time. :P

April 30th, 2008 at 8:34 pmOh wow, good for you!! I never thought of that, building websites for charities. I designed my church’s website’s platform, but of course based off of wordpress as well. It’s definitely a hobby of mine, but not something that I would like to pursue in the long run. I wish you best of luck in your endeavors!
