Plurktastic

Lately the mini blogging service Twitter has been having server issues and people have been considering jumping ship. Finding a decent alternative has been easy, thanks to Melissa. She found another mini blogging service called Plurk. Melissa shared the URL with some of us in the Quilting Bee chat room. At first I was skeptical and thought, “oh yet another dull social networking site”. I was wrong, Plurk is far from dull.

It is not just any place where you can send mini updates. Your updates are displayed on a timeline, you can change the wording by choosing a coloured phrase from a drop-down menu, such as “is”, “loves” or “likes”. You can even change the style of your timeline/profile page. There is also a very handy feature where you can organise your friends into “cliques” or groups. You can also be somebodys “fan” or they can be yours.

Another feature that Twitter doesn’t have is the karma system. By posting plurks, replying to peoples plurks and referring friends you can earn karma points. With these points you can have access to new timeline designs and other little characters that you can display in the top right-hand corner of your timeline.

There is a handy Firefox plugin for Plurk which I use, to make the plurking process easier. I have found a Wordpress plugin, too!

If you are tired of Twitter and want something more exciting with heaps more features give Plurk a try.

OMG…I fail. I was going to blog about this. XP That’s ok, you are allowed. I give you my blessing for this blog post.

I rather like Plurk, I think. Twitter is cool and simplistic, but Plurk is just too fun to play with! You know, maybe I will blog about it as well. ;D I’ll link your article of course. XD

I like it, from the looks of it and everything. But all the hype it’s getting is making me suspicious, because what if it goes down the way of ol’ Twitter? And I’m also debating between Plurk and Adocu, can’t figure out which one I prefer yet.

Plurk seems to me like one of those things that I’ll sign up for but never use.

Wow, you make it sound really amazing. I’m going to check it out! I never had a Twitter account, but I’ve seen them everywhere. That means it has to be good. So, if you say this is better than Twitter, it must be crazy amazing!

I love twitter so much, but I do think that it is time for a change, so maybe I’ll give plurk a chance and try it out.
But I just love how simple Twitter is ^^

Hey Sarah I’m using the plug-in for my new layout but it doesn’t want to work for me. Just keeps telling me “No public Plurk messages” when I do! Any idea what’s up?
