Challenging interview
So, I had my job interview this morning. I must say it was challenging. Firstly I was asked to fill in an application form. I sent them a CV already, it annoys me when I need to fill in a form, too. After that I took the numeracy test. It wasn’t too bad, just basic maths such as percentages, addition, division and measurements. I feel I messed up on a couple of questions, though. I am out of exam practice, which didn’t help. Both filling out the application form and completing the test took around forty minutes. Then came the actual interview.
As soon as I stepped into the interview room I knew it was going to be challenging. Not only the Assistant Manager was present (who took notes), but the Store Manager too. There seemed to be a never-ending amount of questions. These questions ranged from “what do you think you can bring to ____?” to “how would you go about selling these storage boxes?”. I answered the questions to the best of my ability. I hesitated at a few because I was totally unprepared for them, but tackled them. I felt I was “waffling” at times, but I was just trying to get my point across without sounding too brief. I felt very nervous, which must have shown. I did keep my body language open, I smiled and maintained eye contact. I didn’t fidget, I sat up straight and even managed to tell them what I know about the company. I performed some research via their website last night and took a few notes. On the way to the interview I read the notes just to refresh my memory.
I feel I did alright, but I could have been more prepared. I must have took the interview for granted. I have had a fair few retail interviews that have been very similar to one another. This one, however, was different. It was far more challenging, it really opened my eyes and made me realise I need to up my game. I will know by Wednesday if I have the job. Fingers crossed.
Edit: I have yet another interview for a fast food establishment job. It will be on Sunday. I’m on a roll here!
