Restricted entries

Lately there have been things going on in my little life that I don’t feel comfortable publishing on my blog for all to see. There are people I would like to share this information with, but how should I go about doing so? Should I go ahead and create a LiveJournal account (for the umpteenth time) or should I allow people to register an account on this site to view restricted entries? I want to make it easier for people who matter to me to access these entries.

What would be easier for you if you were to read my more private musings? Would you be bothered to sign up for an account here or would you rather view them on LiveJournal, or even another journal service? I want your opinions because they actually do matter. Do you publish restricted entries? If so, how do you go about it?

It depends… if you make people register, will your entries show up as “PROTECTED ENTRY” in your blog? Because I find that particularly annoying.

@Sarai: I think there are ways of having protected entries not listed at all to non-registered members.

I don’t publish restricted entries. If I feel a subject is too personal or private to let everybody in the world read, then I won’t publish something… I just save it in my archives.

But, I enjoy reading other’s private entries because it shows a different side of the person… not just WordPress this and WordPress that. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading and writing about internet and sitely stuff, but just because we web design doesn’t mean we don’t have another side to us.

If you were to give me the VIP treatment, and I could read your private entries, I would just rather read them here. Protecting them with a password would get rid of the use for registering entirely.

In the end, the decision is up to you. How do you want to archive your entries? By using LiveJournal or any other kind of journal, you would not have control over your most personal posts. Using WordPress means you can save, backup, and manage all of your writings, rants, and vents.

I think you should just make the post password protected, and then tell the password to those you trust. :)

I leave anything deeply personal out of my blog and I post it in my livejournal. I think of my blog as more of a comic/craft site w/ occasional ramblings, so I don’t really want to go too indepth in anything. But I also feel as a blog hopper, visiting blogs that have passworded entries a lot are a little annoying. So, i would make an LJ for times you need to vent but want to keep it private, or you can always talk to us in the Q*bee forums too! Everyone there is super friendly and supportive. In the end, just do what you feel the most comfortable doing. *hugs*

If you made an LJ, I’d tap that.

I’d go with letting people register or offer a password. I’m too lazy to check Livejournal. :o

It’s odd, but I am quite intrigued by this post.

The question is, what is more annoying?
I agree with Sarai in the sense that passwords are annoying. But I disagree with Christine, because me and a lot of other people are too lazy to get a LiveJournal, let alone check it.

But… I like the idea of you posting entries in the Q*bee BBS. Although, you might now want 200 some odd members to read your thoughts.

I don’t mind either way, whatever makes you comfy. :) There is definitely a way to keep protected entries from appearing on your main blog, however I don’t think you can hide them from your feeds.

I’ve often thought about doing a protected thing as well…just gotta get around to it. :P
