Working life

Posted on: October 8, 2008 | Filed in: Personal, Rantings

I have been training for my new job for a couple of days, it has gone quite well. Sometimes the store is so quiet it can be boring, even though I have been quite busy with stock duties. The store in my town has been postponed from opening this weekend to next weekend. I start working there next week. I do like the town I travel to in order to train, but it’s a pain travelling there. I have to be up and get the first bus by 7:30am, the next bus by 8:15am. I then have to wait around over an hour to start work. When I am finished at 4pm I have to do a very brisk walk to the bus station to get the 4:10 bus. If I didn’t get this one I’d be waiting around another hour, I only just make it.

I have been very tired and my feet have been in pain, which is why I haven’t been so active blogging and partaking in Internet stuff for the last couple of days. My feet were aching so much today, I wanted to cry. While waiting to get on the bus home I was wobbling and thought I’d fall over. I just felt this overwhelming nausea, fatigue and foot pain come over me. I’m guessing it is because I didn’t eat much lunch and these cheap shoes aren’t exactly comfortable. The nausea could have been a result of the old man in front of me who smelled like he didn’t have a wash in weeks. Hopefully the foot pain will reduce in time. :(

I can’t wait till tomorrow is over, no more dodgy travelling arrangements. I’ll be working in my own town.

I’m glad that you have a job, but I totally understand what you’re going through. I used to work as a cashier for a grocery store, and I would sometimes pull a double shift…working for twelve hours straight just standing and lifting heavy items sucks. I’d definitely recommend investing in a good pair of comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you later! :)

Proper shoes are definitely a must! You don’t want to destroy your feet or get icky varicose veins!

Good shoes with inner sole support are a must for retail work, especially if its the type where you’re up and about all the time! It’s a big investment now, but ultimately, it’s the best purchase you’ll make!

Good luck Sarah!

Born makes good shoes. Also, Riekers makes shoes with memory foam. Both brands are expensive but worth an investment and long-lasting. Check them out on the net~~I’m sure you’ll be referred to yet more brands.

I know I’m super late with this (for some reason my feed reader has stopped showing up your entries), but congratulations on your new job! Sorry to hear about the foot pain - when I worked in retail I found that good, comfortable shoes were a must.

Take your first check and invest it in good shoes, seriously. It might be pricey, but think about how pricey it would be if you had to be out of work for a week because of shin splints.

Aw, I feel your pain. When I started my job my feet and back hurt incredible amounts. It is pretty crazy. I hope you feel better and the job goes well.
